Case started against Suvendu Adhikari for claiming he has call records of East Midnapore SP

Suo motu case was started against Adhikari also for flouting COVID-19 protocols

The Tamluk police station of Bengal’s East Midnapore district on Tuesday filed a suo motu case against West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari a day after he said that he has in his possession call records of telephonic conversations of the district police superintendent Amarnath K. A case was filed against him for flouting The Official Secrets’ Act 1923, as telephonic surveillance can be done by administration authorities after due clearance obtained legally.

A case was also filed against Adhikari for holding a meeting in East Midnapore’s Tamluk – where he said these yesterday – without adhering to COVID-19 protocols, as gatherings with over 50 persons is banned now.

Asking the IPS officer Amarnath K to tread with caution, Adhikari had said yesterday: “A young boy has come as SP here. I know what he is up to, I am a veteran player. I want to tell him that you are an officer of the Central cadre, so don’t do anything for which you may get posted in Anantnag or Baramulla in Kashmir.” Suvendu Adhikari also said that if “some people” thought they have the state government in their control, he himself has control over the Central government.

“I have each and every call record, phone number of all those who call you from the nephew’s (Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee) office,” Adhikari had said while addressing BJP workers on Monday.
