Coronavirus scare in Kolkata: One person from Behala admitted to ID Hospital, 55 under observation

A young man from Kolkata’s Behala was admitted to Beliaghata Infectious Diseases Hospital on Friday due to fear of contracting Coronavirus. He got himself admitted to the hospital as he got scared after showing symptoms of common cold. Doctors decided to keep him in the isolation ward after going through his recent travel history to different countries. On Saturday, the hospital authorities sent swab samples for testing to National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED) situated in the hospital premises.
Additionally, 55 persons arriving from other countries have been kept under observation in the hospital. Out of the 55 admitted, 54 are women.
So, far none in Kolkata or West Bengal have tested positive for Coronavirus. However, the administration is on the alert as the first three confirmed Coronavirus patients of India landed in Kolkata before travelling to their homes in Kerala.
There are thus chances that it may have spread among others who travelled with these three. What makes the matter more complex is that symptoms of the disease show up only after 14 days of infection. By the time it gets diagnosed, other people may have got infected too. Efforts are thus on by the Central and state governments to track down the co-passengers of three Coronavirus patients and quarantine them if needed.
