Covid-19 in India: 7,447 cases, Punjab & Rajasthan extends lockdown after Odisha

The number of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in India increased to 7,447 on Saturday. So far, 643 have recovered while the number of deaths is 239. Punjab and Rajasthan on Friday were the two other states to extend the lockdown till April 30. Odisha was the first state to declare to do so. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will decide on the lockdown beyond April 14 after a meeting with chief ministers of all the states. The lockdown was imposed on March 24 for 21 days.

Delhi has so far reported 903 COVID-19 cases, the third highest in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu which have reported 1,574 and 911 cases respectively.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that everyone from a COVID-19 hotspot zone will be tested regardless of whether they are related to COVID-19 patients or not.

The Centre has assured that it has thrice the amount of hydroxychloroquine than the country needs. Hydroxychloroquine is being considered to be a preventive drug for COVID-19.
