COVID-19: Two-week lockdown in Karnataka from tomorrow
The state recorded its biggest surge on a single day.
Karnataka has announced a two-week lockdown from tomorrow. The decision was announced on the day the state reported its biggest rise of over 34,000 new cases in a single day.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that there will be a “COVID curfew” in the state from 9 PM tomorrow for the next 14 days. Essential services will be allowed between 6 AM and 10 AM. No public transport will run during the lockdown, and travel within the state and outside — to and from other states — won’t be allowed except for emergencies. However, construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors will function.
The state yesterday reported 34,804 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 13.39 lakh. There were 143 deaths reported. It is reported that Karnataka has a positivity rate of nearly 20 per cent.
