CRPF for Bengal Governor’s security, ruling party feels it’s a political move
The Union Home Ministry has assigned the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for the security of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. The security has also been upgraded to Z-plus category.
The Governor’s security was reviewed after he went to Jadavpur University to “rescue” Union minister of state Babul Supriyo, and his car had been stopped by the students there. The Centre took matters in its own hand after consulting the threat assessment reports from a couple of central security and intelligence agencies.
In the new measure taken, the Governor will have 8-10 armed security personnel wherever he travels within the country. The upgraded security will be implemented soon.
The Trinamool Congress-led state government however, is upset with the way things have unfolded. Senior leader of the party, Subrata Mukherjee said he was not sure whether this was a political move on the part of the Governor, and that he had never seen something like this in his long career as a politician.
State secretary of Bharaitya Janata Party, Dilip Ghosh said that the people of Bengal have seen the extent to which the Governor’s security was breached during the Jadavpur incident and lauded the Centre saying that it has made a right move.
