Crude bomb blasts close to BJP MP’s house again, after NIA probe ordered
The NIA has taken over the probe on Monday.
There were alleged blasts from crude bombs close to Bharatiya Janata Party MP Arjun Singh’s house in Jagaddal again on Tuesday morning. It is around 45 km from Kolkata. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday had received orders to take over the probe of the explosion outside Singh’s house that took place last week, on September 8.
Tuesday morning’s blasts allegedly took place some distance from Singh’s house, while the September 8 blasts had taken place just outside his residence. On September 8, some crude bombs were hurled at Singh’s house. Singh has alleged that the state’s ruling party, Trinamool Congress, is responsible for both the attacks.
However, the Trinamool Congress said that the attack was the fallout of the BJP’s internal feud. Trinamool’s Partha Bhowmick said that his party is not responsible for any attack and the BJP MP is organising these in order to draw attention, as he is losing popularity in the area. The Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had criticised the September 8 attack, calling it “wanton violence” in West Bengal that showed “no sign of abating”. He wrote that he expects “prompt action” by the West Bengal Police and had earlier flagged his concern to chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Singh had switched over to the BJP from the Trinamool Congress in 2019, and was elected from Barrackpore. His son Pawan Kumar Singh is BJP MLA from Bhatpara.
