West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee cancelled her election campaign for two days due to the impact Cyclone Fani is likely to cause on hitting the state.
“Have cancelled my rallies for the next 48 hours because of what could be an impending disaster #CyclonicStormFANI We are monitoring the situation 24 x 7 and doing all it takes. I appeal to all people to cooperate. Be alert, take care and stay safe for the next two days,” Banerjee tweeted this morning.
She has also sent out a message from Kharagpur saying she is personally monitoring the situation. Heavy rain and wind with a speed of nearly 175km per hour has hit the Odisha coast earlier today, and is expected to move to the Bengal coast later today.
The administration is keeping an eye on the situation through control rooms and keeping disaster management teams ready.
