“Decline” in Pranab Mukherjee’s health condition, signs of “lung infection”, says hospital

Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s health condition has deteriorated, and there are signs of a lung infection, it was reported by the hospital where he has been admitted since last week. He is on ventilator support and has also tested positive for COVID-19. The 84-year-old underwent an emergency surgery for a brain clot on August 10.

“There has been a decline in the medical condition of Hon’ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee as he has developed features of lung infection. He continues to be on ventilatory support and is currently being managed by a team of specialists,” Army Research and Referral Hospital’s statement read.

Last Monday, Mukherjee had mentioned in his Twitter account that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He urged those who had come in contact with him for the past few days to isolate themselves and get tested for COVID-19.

At Mukherjee’s ancestral house in Bengal’s Birbhum district, family members and neighbours have been praying for his recovery, and they conducted a 72-hour yajna last week.
