Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded advocate Sunil Yadav as the candidate against Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal in the coming Delhi Assembly polls. Yadav is the president of BJP’s state youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). The elections will be held on February 8 and the results will be out on February 11.
Yadav started his career as the Mandal president of Yuva Morcha and went on to become its district president, Delhi general secretary and then Delhi secretary of the outfit.
BJP released its second and final list of candidates on Monday after its ally Shiromani Akali Dal stepped back from contesting the elections with BJP due to their differences over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). BJP had released its first list containing the names of 57 candidates on Friday. The party is fielding candidates in 67 seats, including 20 new faces. Candidates in remaining three seats will be fielded by allies Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party.
The BJP has been out of power in Delhi for over two decades since it lost to Congress in 1993.
