Did BJP’s Locket Chatterjee smash glasses of her own car?

Trinamool releases footage to show glasses were broken "from inside the vehicle"

Trinamool Congress leaders on Saturday alleged that Locket Chatterjee, Hooghly’s Bharatiya Janata Party’s MP and the party’s candidate from Chinsurah this Assembly election, smashed glasses of her own vehicle in a bid to tarnish the image of Bengal’s ruling party.

Showing footages of the incident at Trinamool Bhawan in Kolkata, party spokespersons Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen said that it showed that the vehicle’s window was being smashed from inside the vehicle and not from outside. The Bengal Story could not independently confirm the authenticity of the footage.

Earlier in the day, Chatterjee had alleged that Trinamool workers had aimed at her along with BJP workers with pieces of bricks, and that had caused damage to her vehicle. But this was countered by the Trinamool leaders who said that the glasses were smashed from inside the vehicle.

Elections were held in 44 seats on Saturday in the state’s fourth phase elections, including Chinsurah, from where Locket Chatterjee is contesting as BJP candidate. She alleged that at around 10 AM, Trinamool workers were organising a booth capture in booth number 66 of the constituency. When she reached there on hearing this, she noticed a woman standing by the EVM and when she was caught “red-handed”, the BJP candidate was gheraoed by Trinamool workers. Her vehicle, Chatterjee herself and other BJP workers came under attack at that time, the BJP claimed. This led to the damage to her vehicle, it was claimed.

Trinamool leader from Chinsurah, Asit Majumdar said that Chatterjee was “organising” these incidents “knowing she is about to lose”. Reacting to the Trinamool Congress claims, Locket Chatterjee said that a probe would bring out the truth.
