ED arrests Bengal police officer in coal smuggling probe

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday arrested Ashok Mishra, Inspector-in-charge of Bankura in West Bengal, in connection with the coal smuggling probe.

It is reported that he was named by Vikas Mishra, Trinamool Congress leader Vinay Mishra’s brother, who was arrested last month from Delhi by the ED in connection with the scam. Ashok Mishra was questioned for being allegedly involved with Vinay Mishra and allegedly facilitating him in the smuggling.

On March 22, a Delhi court sent Vikas Mishra to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the coal mining scam till April 5. It was alleged that there is a nexus between officials and policemen involved in cow smuggling and coal mining along with human trafficking in the bordering areas of Bengal.
