ED asks for info from Kolkata Police in fake vaccine case

A case on economic crime may be started.

The Enforcement Directorate has asked for information from Kolkata Police authorities on the case of fake vaccines by an impersonator who claimed to be an IAS officer associated with the city’s civic body.

Debanjan Deb was arrested by the Kolkata Police last week after a heads-up by Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty who herself got “vaccinated” at a camp in Kolkata’s Kasba. The Kolkata Police has since then found Deb cheating hundreds of people for several years claiming to be an IAS officer. Two others part of the gang were also arrested.

The ED is a Central government law enforcement agency and economic intelligence agency responsible for enforcing economic laws and for fighting economic crime in the country. The agency has asked for information unearthed in the case by the Kolkata Police – possibly to start an economic offences related case, officials said.
