Former director of medical education in West Bengal, Pradip Kumar Mitra has been appointed coordinator of the COVID Management and Containment Committee for fighting Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the state.
The committee was formed after chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced the formation of a Cabinet level committee for COVID-19 last week, stating that government officials have to supervise other administrative matters and cannot devote their full time overseeing the COVID-19 situation.
Mitra took charge in April end and will work from the headquarters of state health department at Swasthya Bhavan in Salt Lake. He will advice the state on controlling COVID-19 and increasing the number of tests. He has experience of working in the state health department for over 35 years and is known to have commendable administrative skills in the sector.
He has served as director of Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education & Research (IPGMER) in Kolkata.
