Facebook allegedly shared personal information of the users with about 60 device makers including Apple and Samsung, The New York Times has reported.
Facebook, which is already facing backlash for allegedly sharing personal information of millions of users, had allegedly made agreements to allow “phone and other device makers access to vast amounts of its users’ personal information”, is was stated in the report. This data sharing partnership has been apparently made with at least 60 device makers that include Apple, Amazon, Blackberry, Microsoft and Samsung, even before Facebook’s wide availability in smartphones.
But the partnerships, whose scope has not previously been reported, raise concerns about the company’s privacy protections and compliance with a 2011 consent decree with the Federal Trade Commission, The New York Times wrote.
Facebook officials however, were quoted saying that its data sharing was consistent with its privacy policies and pledges to users and Federal Trade Commission agreement. They said they knew of no cases where data had been misused.
