Fans of Bengali film stars Dev and Jeet clash outside Kolkata cinema hall

This is no less than a scene straight out of a film. Fans of two Tollywood film stars – Dev and Jeet – clashed outside Basusree, a cinema hall in Kolkata, on Wednesday afternoon. Both actors had an Eid release on Wednesday at the same theatre.

Dev is also the Trinamool Congress’ member of Parliament from Ghatal, who won from the seat for the second time. His film Kidnap and Jeet, another top hero of the Bengali film industry, had a release Shesh Theke Shuru at the same cinema hall on Wednesday afternoon.

This led fans of both the actors come face to face outside the cinema hall on Eid.

When the first show of Jeet’s Shesh Theke Shuru ended at around 2.30 pm and the actor’s fans were coming out of the hall, Dev’s fans were waiting outside with garlands as his film Kidnap was to start at the same hall at 2.40 pm.

According to some reports, fans of both movie stars got involved in angry exchange of words eventually leading to fisticuffs. They started throwing bottles of soft drinks, bricks at each other along with whatever they could lay their hands on from shops along the pavement. Posters and cut outs of both films had been torn and damaged.

The hall authorities panicked and called the police and when a team from the nearby Bhawanipore police station rushed to the spot, the groups were still fighting. The police team had to disperse the crowd and those with tickets were allowed to enter. A police picket was placed outside the hall.
