Former Dum Dum resident elected London councillor

A former Dum Dum resident, Rohit K Dasgupta, was elected as councillor of the London Borough of Newham with 70% votes. An alumnus of Jadavpur University, Dasgupta is the first Bengali from India to achieve this feat.

He was fielded as the Labour Party’s parliamentary candidate for East Hampshire but he could not win last year. He moved to England for higher studies in 2009, and took interest in UK politics. He currently does an academic job at the Loughbrough University, it was reported.
