Pranab Mukherjee – who was President of India between 2012 and 2017 – took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to say that he had tested positive for COVID-19.
He asked those who had come in contact with him for the past one week to isolate themselves and get themselves tested. Mukherjee, whose Twitter handle is @CitiznMukherjee, wrote, “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19”. Many wished the 84-year-old senior leader a speedy recovery.
Several senior political leaders across the country, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa have tested positive for COVID-19.
There has been over 22 lakh positive cases of COVID-19 across the country so far and 44,000 people have died since the outbreak of the pandemic.
