Heavy rainfall predicted all through Wednesday
Heavy rainfall is predicted throughout West Bengal all through Wednesday. The rainfall is expected to come down tomorrow, as reported by the Alipore weather office.
The sudden heavy rainfall is on due to a cyclonic circulation in the eastern coast of Bay of Bengal in areas adjoining Andhra Pradesh. It is reported to have strengthened the existing monsoon trough over Bengal.
There will be varying intensity of rainfall throughout the day on Wednesday which will continue till the next day. An alert has been issued in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Howrah and Hooghly due to heavy rainfall. In the north – Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalapiguri, Alipurduar, Malda, North and South Dinajpur will also get heavy rainfall.
Officials from the weather office said that rainfall around this time of the year is not unusual as the south-western wing of the monsoon in the state remains active till October 15 every year. No final predictions are available for the Durga Puja days yet, but rains are not completely ruled out either.
Heavy rainfall started on Tuesday morning and continued till late night. Office goers had a tough time returning home. Puja shoppers and sellers also suffered due to the continuous rain. Traders fear huge losses if the rains continue over the weekend.
