Heavy rains in Kolkata, waterlogged streets

There was heavy rainfall in Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon, leading to waterlogged streets in various parts of the city.

Large parts of Kolkata including College Street, Esplanade, Jadavpur, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Rabindra Sadan area were waterlogged in two hours of rainfall. It was also reported in various flyovers across the city including the Maa flyover when the rainfall was maximum. Some puja committees faced difficulty today as the rains upset the idol immersion schedule.

Various parts of south Bengal outside Kolkata also received heavy rainfall. North and South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Nadia and East Midnapore got heavy rainfall. Officials at the Alipore weather office said that monsoon will leave the state in the coming 48 hours despite heavy to intermittent rainfall, which is due to a temporary depression-like condition.
