Here’s the new list of BJP candidates: who is contesting from Bhawanipore, which movie stars made it to the list?
Who protested on finding their name and who protested for names not figuring in the list?
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its list of candidates for phase five to eight. The earlier list of candidates for the first four phases were released in two instalments.
The list has some of the prominent names:

- Samik Bhattacharya (Rajarhat-Gopalpur)
- Rudranil Ghosh (Bhowanipur)
- Agnimitra Paul (Asansol Dakshin)
- Parno Mitra (Baranagar)
- Kalyan Choube (Maniktala)
- Shubrangshu Roy (Bijpur)
- Sabyasachi Dutta (Bidhannagar)
- Shikha Chatterjee (Dabgram-Phulbari)
- Raju Banerjee (Kamarhati)
- Chandrima Roy (Hemtabad)
- Shilbhadra Dutta (Khardaha)
- Loknath Chatterjee (Ballygunje)
- Jitendra Tiwari (Pandabeswar)
- Meena Devi Purohit (Jorasanko)
- Shikha Mitra Chowdhury (Chowringhee)
Shikha Mitra Choudhuri, candidate from Chowringhee, said, “I had told senior leaders of the party that I am not willing to contest the election. They never consulted me before the list was finalised.” Tarun Saha, candidate from Kashipur in Belgachia too expressed surprise. “I’m not a member of the party. How can they include my name?” he asked.
In various parts of Malda, in areas such as Durgapur, Jagaddal, BJP workers ransacked party offices, showing their disgruntlement over selection of candidates. For the past few days, BJP workers from various parts of the state have been showing protests and clashes outside the party office in Kolkata’s Hastings.
