If anyone from Bengal becomes PM, it will be Mamata: BJP state chief’s “birthday wish” for the Bengal CM
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) West Bengal chief Dilip Ghosh, on Saturday wished chief minister Mamata Banerjee on her birthday with the message that if anyone could be Prime Minister from Bengal, it would be Banerjee.
“I wish her sound health and success in life. She is Bengal’s face. If anyone from Bengal gets to become Prime Minister, that would be Mamata. Jyotibabu missed the chance by a whisker. His party didn’t let him become Prime Minister. We had Pranab Mukherjee as President of India,” Ghosh said on Banerjee’s birthday.
Such a statement from the BJP’s Bengal president has shocked many. It made some people — including those from within the BJP — wonder what had made him say so, when Ghosh on a regular basis lashed out at Mamata Banerjee, her government and her party, the Trinamool Congress.
Some thought these words were “a bit too kind” to come from an Opposition leader even if meant as a “birthday wish”.
