Next time you enter Eden Gardens — and it will perhaps be on November 22 for the International Day-Night test match between India and Bangladesh — you will notice something delightfully different!

More than nine walls inside the stadium — both large and small ones — are being painted with fascinating illustrations. Over 20 students from Indian Art College are working on the murals. The illustrations have been conceptualised and designed by Sayan Mukherjee, an artist and illustrator based in Kolkata.

Mukherjee has worked in advertising for close to a decade and has worked on many books, advertising campaigns, editorial illustrations and murals. The earlier murals at the Eden Gardens that were done two years back, were done by Mukherjee and his team.

“The idea behind the illustrations of the main walls is to capture the journey of a young boy from gully cricket to the Indian team,” said Sayan Mukherjee. One wall is for the bowler and another one for the batsman. The remaining walls capture the essence of cricket and the action of the game. A separate wall has been dedicated to the fans of cricket. The event has been organised by CreoCraft.
