Jagdeep Dhankhar to take oath as Vice President of India today
The Vice President is also ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Former West Bengal Governor and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar will take oath as the next Vice President of India on Thursday. The Vice President is also ex-officio Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha.
President of India Droupadi Murmu will administer the Oath of Office to the elected Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
Dhakhar was elected on August 6, defeating the Opposition’s Margaret Alva. He won with 528 votes against Alva’s 182.
He was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal in 2019, and resigned from the post on July 17 this year after his name was announced as the Vice Presidential candidate of the NDA. It is the second-highest constitutional post in the country, and is elected through an electoral college consisting of members of the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
