July 21 Trinamool Congress Shahid Divas: BJP will mark Martyrs’ Day too
BJP alleges its workers are being attacked by Bengal's ruling party.
The Trinamool Congress is to mark its Martyrs’ Day on July 21 like every year. But this time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bengal too will mark “Martyrs’ Day” in a bid to draw attention away from the ruling party in the state.
During Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee’s virtual address to her supporters and party workers tomorrow, the BJP will hold a dharna in New Delhi’s Rajghat area to protest the Trinamool Congress’ alleged atrocities on BJP workers in Bengal. West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh will lead this dharna in Delhi from 11.30 am along with other party MPs. The BJP’s Leader of Opposition in Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, will hold a virtual address from the party’s Bengal headquarters in Kolkata. Programmes will be organised from 1.30 pm to 4 pm at BJP’s Muralidhar Sen Lane and Hastings party offices in Kolkata, which will involve Adhikari’s speech and Dilip Ghosh’s virtual address.
According to BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya, “Though the Trinamool Congress organises Martyrs’ Day, in reality, they are the one leading attack.” The Bengal BJP will thus “remember the sacrifices” of its party workers on this day, Bhattacharya said. He said that from panchayat polls to the Assembly elections and thereafter, 124 BJP workers have been killed in the state. The BJP alleges that the state government and police have not taken any action and are playing a partisan role in probes. The programmes will be telecast live on the party’s social media pages.
