KMC to track slum dwellers to check COVID-19

Slums need to be under special scrutiny due to overcrowding.

KMC to track slum dwellers to check COVID-19
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will keep a vigil on slums in the city to collect relevant information that will help it take necessary preventive measures to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim said this after a meeting with chief secretary Rajiva Sinha on Tuesday.
Slums, which are overcrowded, are high-risk zones for COVID-19. It was also brought to KMC’s notice that slum dwellers have been flouting lockdown norms and roaming around. The authorities feel that it is important to keep a watch on those living in slums and are suffering from any illness.
Officials will collect data on the number of people who are suffering from any illness and keep a track of the nature of illness, especially for elderly people. Councillors of respective wards will assist them in the work.
If unusual symptoms are noticed, they will be admitted to hospital immediately.
