The 43rd International Book Fair of Kolkata will be held from January 30 to February 10, 2019 at the Central Park in Salt Lake.
This time, the theme country will be Guatemala. At the media conference held in Kolkata, Ambassador of Guatemala in India, Giovanni Castillo, unveiled the logo of the theme country which read “The Heart of the Mayan World – Guatemala”.
The Book Fair will be inaugurated by the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee. The UK, USA, Russia, China, Japan, Vietnam, Bangladesh and 11 Latin American countries will take part in the Fair. This is the first time, Iran is going to take part in the fair.
In fact, Publishers and Booksellers Guild general secretary Tridib Chatterjee has said that even Pakistan has expressed interest in participating this year, provided they get their visa on time.
The 6th Kolkata Literature Festival will also be the high point of the Book Fair and will be held from February 7 to 9. The Kolkata Book Fair usually witnesses massive footfall every year and recorded 2.2 million visitors last year and 22 crore books sold.
