With the early onset of summer and day time temperatures already scaling the low thirties in the last week of February, Kolkata is slated for some relief next week.
The met office has predicted that the city will receive moderate thunderstorms between Monday and Wednesday.
While some of the districts towards the west of the state will receive severe storms, Kolkata is expected to receive two moderate ones. The temperature is expected to fall after the showers but will rise again during the day.
According to senior officials of the Regional Meteorological Centre, the formation of a high-pressure zone over the Bay of Bengal was infusing moisture into the environment. Coupled with that, the rising temperatures during the day had created conditions favourable to thundershowers.
