Landmine found in Bengal’s Belpahari

Area tense a day before Maoists called bandh.

A day before the Maoists are to observe bandh across West Bengal, a landmine was found in Belpahari of Jhargram district on Thursday. It was found in Belpahari’s Laboni area.

In recent times, several Maoist posters were found from various parts of Jangalmahal – the forested regions of Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore and Jhargram areas. Posters supporting the bandh were also found by the police. The Central forces were on a round in Belpahari area, which borders the neighbouring Jharkhand, and found the landmine.

This has created a lot of fear and anguish among local residents. Police have prevented local people from going close to the area. Senior officers have reached the spot.
