Light to moderate rainfall predicted today and tomorrow in parts of south Bengal

Although monsoon has left West Bengal on October 14, parts of the state saw light to moderate rainfall on Thursday. Large parts of south Bengal had rainfall from the afternoon and continued till late at night. Heavy rainfall was also reported in some districts adjoining Kolkata.
The Alipore weather office has said that the untimely rainfall is not due to the usual south-west branch of monsoon wind, which brings the major rainfall in the whole of India during the monsoons. The officials said that this rainfall is being brought by the easterly winds commonly known as the easterlies.

The easterlies are entering the state through the coastal areas of Bengal lining the Bay of Bengal. They are being assisted by the ambient moisture in the air to form locally created clouds, causing the untimely rainfall in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and in parts of East Midnapore.

Though the amount of rainfall won’t increase as the locally formed clouds have already started to migrate towards the west, even if it rains today and tomorrow, the amount would be scanty and thus won’t hamper the lives of people.
The skies will alternate between cloudy and sunny from morning today. Temperature will remain between 24 and 33 degree Celsius. The relative humidity will be comparatively higher today which may cause some discomfort.
Meanwhile, the north-west branch of the monsoon which is known as the return or retreating monsoon has entered the south India, which may also cause some light rainfalls in coastal parts of the state including East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas.
