A major fire broke out at the naptha cracker unit of Haldia Petrochemicals Limited in East Midnapore district at around 11 this morning. Fifteen workers were injured.
They suffered serious burn injury and were taken to Kolkata hospitals. The condition of three was stated to be serious.
Ten fire tenders were pressed into service. There were some reports that said that a crack in the naptha pipeline had caused the fire. However, the cause is yet to be ascertained officially. The fire extinguishing system of the plant also came to use, it was learnt. The fire was brought under control after a few hours.
