Mamata Banerjee asks people to be cautious about fake news during Durga Puja and Muharram

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that some groups were constantly trying to cause riots through mischievous means and fake news in various parts of the state, and people must be especially cautious about this during the coming festive season.

“They are trying to inflame public feelings. But remember, if there is fire, it will burn all of us,” she said at a meeting with Durga Puja organisers. “We won’t let that happen here.”

Banerjee said that people must display harmony and solidarity and not let fake news affect them. “Don’t let people mislead you through social media messages,” she said, asking people to confirm and clarify every message before believing in them.
