West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that the seven-phase election in the state was a “game-plan” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) though she added that she had great respect for the Election Commission of India (ECI). “I have great respect for the Election Commission. I am not saying anything about the ECI,” she said.
Banerjee said that a seven-phase schedule was the “BJP plan to disturb Bengal”. She also added that the election schedule in the state that will go on for over a month, had actually pleased her because it will help her travel throughout the state and hold more rallies and meetings. “They will get a fitting reply because we will win all 42 seats,” Banerjee said at the state administrative headquarters, Nabanna, on Monday.
She explained the BJP’s gameplan: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, with 80 seats, 40 seats and 42 seats respectively, will hold the key to the formation of the new government, she said. And as such, the BJP leaders meant to hold more rallies in these three states.
Banerjee added that she had received information from journalists about the possibility of another “strike” in April. “What strike I am not saying… in the name of so called… so called… in April,” she said.
