West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said that Bengal had succeeded in tackling violence and killing in those areas of the state where the Maoists were active, while all other states, including those ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had failed miserably.

Banerjee addressed two public meetings on Sunday – one at Dantan in West Midnapore and another at Goaltore, in Jhargram district. These are both part of Jangalmahal, where the Maoists were active prior to 2011, the year Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress came to power in the state.

She said on Sunday that people in Jangalmahal now lived in peace, and reiterated that under her rule Bengal had showed the country the way to solving insurgency-related problems.

Addressing people at Goaltore, Banerjee said that her government had worked for the tribal people. “Our government works for everyone, irrespective of their religion, caste or creed,” she said and went on to add that the politics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the other hand was divisive, and minorities, dalits and farmers had been targeted.

Terming PM Modi as “the greatest danger for the country”, she urged the people to oust the present government in power.
