Launching a scathing attack on the Central government after the Interim Budget was tabled this morning Parliament, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government  is like a ‘chit fund’ company and has crossed its ‘expiry date’. Saying the Budget was of no value, Banerjee went on to state in the state Assembly today that the Centre was playing politics with the Budget.

The chief minister pointed out that after demonetisation and the implementation of GST, the country was in a state of fiscal emergency. While unemployment figures are on the rise on one hand, farmers were being duped on the other. The Bengal CM accused the BJP government of having destroyed the country’s banking sector.

Stating that the Budget was nothing by a ploy by the Centre to appease the masses, Mamata noted that the BJP will soon be thrown out of power and this ‘valueless’ budget will not see the light of day. A new government would take its place and present a new Budget. The chief minister further added that the BJP was following a centralised form of governance and ignoring the federal structure of the Indian parliamentary system by sidelining the states.

Banerjee alleged that the BJP was fully aware that they would not return to government and were therefore peddling false promises before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in May. The Bengal chief minister alleged that the Central government had been converted into a chit fund company and had nothing of value to contribute.
