Man arrested for selling his two-month old twin daughters
A man was arrested from Gaighata in West Bengal, after he sold off his twin babies to two different families. The neighbours had approached the police suspecting his involvement in the incident.
Ratan Brahma (38) of Bahaduria village – in the northern fringes of Kolkata – sold off his two-month-old daughters to a rice trader for Rs 1 lakh and another couple in Ramchandrapur village for Rs 80, 000.
Brahma and his wife also have a 10-year-old daughter.
The babies were found from the two families and sent to Thakurnagar Health Centre. They will be taken to the child welfare committee there.
This baby selling racket is not a one-off incident in West Bengal. The state CID in 2016 had exposed a big gang with a Kolkata network which operated in North 24 Parganas. It involved the arrests of doctors, and nursing home owners.
