COVID-19 in Bengal: Local trains, Metro railway, flights from 6 hotspot cities get partial clearance from Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that there will be talks with the Ministry of Railways on partially running Metro Railways in and around Kolkata and local trains across the state.

She asked chief secretary Rajiva Sinha to discuss the matter with the Railways authorities so that the services can be started while maintaining all necessary restrictions in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes social distancing as well as partial running of the services instead of making them fully operational like before.

Banerjee, during the meeting on Wednesday at the state administrative headquarters Nabanna also said that flights from six cities to Kolkata that were so far closed, may be started three days a week from September 1. This includes Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Surat and Ahmedabad.
