Man enters lion’s enclosure in Alipore Zoo, injured, admitted to SSKM Hospital
He is reported to be mentally unstable.
A man in his 50s entered a lion’s enclosure in Alipore Zoological Gardens of Kolkata, on Friday afternoon, which led to chaos and triggered fear among many visitors. He was rescued from the enclosure by the zoo’s security personnel, but by then he had already been attacked by the lion and was left severely injured. He was taken to the state-run SSKM Hospital where he has been admitted.
He has spoken to doctors and disclosed his identity. It is learnt that the person is mentally unstable.
Eyewitnesses said that the 50-year-old man, clad in saffron robes, entered the Alipore Zoo on Friday morning after purchasing a ticket from the counter. Later, he entered a lion’s enclosure, not heeding to the warnings of a security guard. On jumping into the enclosure from the wall, he fell to the ground and broke his leg. Security guards moved the crowd gathered there to safety and attended to the encroacher. By then, he was already attacked by the lion.
Doctors said that his condition is stable, and further details of the reason of his encroachment will have to be probed.
