Moral policing in local train near Kolkata – couple harassed, woman asked to not wear jeans and tees while travelling in local trains

In yet another incident of moral policing, a Kolkata couple faced harassment onboard a local train while travelling from Sealdah in Kolkata to suburb Barrackpore. The incident took place on Saturday evening when a 28 year old man was returning from work with his 24-year old friend.

The woman recorded parts of the conversation with the passengers in her phone and took to Facebook to narrate the incident.

In April, a similar episode took place in the Kolkata Metro, when a couple was harassed by some elderly persons for “standing too close” to each other.

According to the woman’s social media post, on boarding the train from Sealdah on Saturday evening, the couple asked a middle aged man to move a bit to make space for them, which he refused downright. Later, the man along with some other men started misbehaving with them, and even made uncouth comments. According to the woman’s Facebook post, a person asked the woman to not board trains wearing “such kinds of clothes”. She mentioned in her post that she was wearing “normal regular jeans and a top”.
