Nandigram on poll day: hanging body of BJP worker found

Nandigram has been the focal point in Bengal's Assembly election 2021.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was found dead in Nandigram Block I of East Midnapore district on Thursday, the day the constituency goes to the polls. The body of Uday Shankar Dubey was found hanging in his residence by family members on the morning of poll day.

Family members alleged that Dubey was working under lot of mental stress and got threatened by Trinamool Congress workers. They demanded probe to find out whether he committed suicide or whether ruling party workers may have killed him and hanged his body.

Nandigram has been in the news where Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee, is contesting elections against her one-time close aide and former minister Suvendu Adhikari, who is fighting on a BJP ticket this time.

Primary investigation by police indicated that Dubey had hanged himself and there were no injury marks on his body. However, the exact cause of death will be clear only after detailed investigation is completed and the post mortem report comes. The death has caused tension in the area. Trinamool Congress leaders denied any role in the death, indicating that there was tension in the BJP worker’s family.
