Passing legislation or making papri chaat? Asks Derek O’Brien
He said bills were being passed at an average 7 minutes per bill
Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien on Monday equated the Central government’s passing of bills through Parliament with the making of papri chaat. He said bills were being passed “at an average time of under seven minutes per bill”.
O’Brien took to Twitter to write: “In the first 10 days, Modi-Shah rushed through and passed 12 bills at an average time of UNDER SEVEN MINUTES per Bill…” He added: “Passing legislation or making papri chaat!”.
He added in his post a list of bills passed through Parliament which showed that each was passed within minutes of its introduction. The quickest was the Coconut Development Board Bill (passed in one minute) and the slowest the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Bill (passed in 14 minutes).
