Pay more for Kolkata Metro tickets from December 5

Kolkata Metro will increase its fares from December 5. In the revised system, a passenger has to pay Rs. 5 for a distance of 2 km (the earlier limit was 5 km). For travelling 5 km, the charge will be Rs. 10. Thereafter, an additional charge of Rs. 5 would be levied for travelling every 5 km. The maximum fare has been fixed at Rs. 25 for travelling 25 km and above.

According to a Metro spokesperson, other than the three stations Noapara, Dum Dum and Belgachhia – which are more than two kilometres from each other – passengers will still pay Rs. 5 for travelling from one station to the next. She said the fare is being increased to provide better facilities to passengers. The number of air-conditioned trains will be increased from 67 per cent to 80 per cent by December.

The fares were last increased in 2013.
