Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that 80 crore poor across the country will get free foodgrains till November-end as the country fights Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). It is part of an ongoing scheme that is being extended till November.
Modi said that as the fight against COVID-19 continues, the poor need foodgrains and it is the honest taxpayers’ money that is helping in feeding the poor in this critical time. The scheme includes giving five kilo free ration and one kilo dal per month to 80 crore poor across the country. “In the coming months, there are festivals, and the scheme is being extended till Diwali and Chhath Puja,” Modi said.
He also said that some negligence has been noticed among people while following precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. “Earlier, people were using masks, social distancing, washing hands for 20 seconds etc, more diligently,” he said, adding that social and personal behaviour among many is a cause of concern. “Whether it is a village pradhan or the country’s pradhan mantra, no one is above the law,” he said.
