PM Modi to hold meeting on COVID situation today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with top officials at 4.30 pm today to review the COVID situation in the country, it was reported. There has been a huge spike in Coronavirus cases in the past one week. There has been a single-day rise of 1,59,632 new coronavirus cases in India. This has raised the total number of cases to 3,55,28,004, including 3,623 cases of Omicron reported across 27 states and union territories. An increase of 1,18,442 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry data.
PM Modi last held a Covid meeting on December 24, and he had asked officials to remain alert and vigilant. India’s active cases have gone from less than 80,000 to nearly six lakh, with a huge number of doctors and healthcare workers testing positive. Meanwhile, elections have been announced in five states – including Uttar Pradesh – in about a month from now. UP, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, and Uttarakhand will hold polls over seven phases starting February 10. The Election Commission however, has banned physical rallies, roadshows, and meetings till January 15 and ordered an 8 pm to 8 am curfew on political activity.
