Janata Dal (United) leader and poll strategist Prashant Kishor expressed concern over Congress president Sonia Gandhi not issuing any official statement on the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Kishor said that while the Congress was taking part in protests and rallies against the NRC and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), its president had not issued any official statement expressing the party’s clear position in the matter, it was reported by ANI.
While Congress chief ministers have said that they won’t implement NRC, the Congress party has not issued a statement. In some states such as West Bengal and Bihar, the CMs headed their respective parties, but for the Congress, the party head should have made a statement and the CWC must ask the CMs to issue official statements to say they won’t implement NRC in their states, Kishor said.

Kishor also accused the Congress of not doing enough in amending the CAA when it was in power from 2004 to 2014. The CAA, which the Congress has deemed unconstitutional, was created in 2003.
