After he had a closed door meeting with Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday for several hours, there are now speculations that poll strategist Prashant Kishor may join the Congress party. The Congress is the country’s main Opposition party and there are talks that plans are being worked on at various levels to project a strong Opposition to the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
According to some reports, the Gandhis and Kishor have explored the possibility of Kishor playing a major role in the party in the polls ahead. These reports indicate that it was not just about the upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh or Punjab, but the bigger, national fight of 2024.
Kishor has played a successful role in various past elections, as poll strategist, including the recently concluded Assembly polls of West Bengal in which the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee won by a landslide victory for the straight third term. Kishor has, in the recent past, said he was not willing to continue working as a poll strategist, and may explore a role in politics. He has earlier been a leader of Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, but resigned after differences with Kumar.
