Poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s organisation, Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) will distribute 1.5 lakh meals daily in more than 20 cities in the country from April 5 amidst the country-wide lockdown. The company made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday.
The initiative has been taken to ensure that the poor people do not go hungry amidst the 21-days’ lockdown which started from March 24 midnight to contain the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Their effort will complement the effort by the Centre in ensuring food for everyone amidst the lockdown, the announcement said.
The initiative — named Sabki Rasoi (kitchen for all) — will run for 10 days in the first phase starting this Sunday. Around 15 lakh meals will be served in these 10 days. The initiative was run on an experimental basis in some cities from April 1 during which it has served around 25,000 to 45,000 meals.
The organisation has hired professional agencies for food preparation and delivery. For distributing the meals, all social distancing norms to check the spread of COVID-19 will be maintained. I-PAC has said that the distribution of food will be done in a “dignified and compassionate” manner.
