Rahul Gandhi extends support, writes to ‘Mamata-Di’ ahead of United India Rally

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has written to the West Bengal Chief Minister ahead of the United India Rally scheduled to be held in Kolkata on Saturday. Expressing his support to ‘Mamata Di’, the Congress president has written that the “entire opposition is united” and that the rally would send out a “powerful message of a united India”.

Stating that “nationalism and development” can only be “defended” on the “pillars of democracy, social justice and secularism”, Rahul Gandhi has added that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are “intent on destroying” such ideals. Speaking of the “idea of India”, the Congress President pointed out that “millions of Indians” have seen through the “lies peddled by the Modi government”. The current regime’s “false promises” have generated “anger” and “disappointment”.

To be attended by prominent political luminaries, the United India Rally is being looked upon to be a major show of strength by anti-BJP parties ahead of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled in May.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, his son and chief minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav, National Conference leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav are some of the dignitaries to attend the rally.

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are not going to be present, but Mallikarjun Kharge and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will represent the Congress at Saturday’s rally. Mayawati won’t be present either. Her party will be represented by Satish Mishra.
