Rajeev Kumar and Bengal home secretary Atri Bhattacharya transferred by Election Commission

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday issued an order transferring two top officers in West Bengal – ADG CID Rajeev Kumar and state home secretary Atri Bhattacharya – ahead of the final phase of election in the state.

ADG-CID, Rajeev Kumar has, in fact, been asked to report to the Ministry of Home Affairs by 10 am tomorrow.

Atri Bhattacharya, the state home secretary, has been transferred, “for having interfered in the process of conducting election by directing CEO, West Bengal”. Bhattacharya had written to the EC questioning the role of the Central forces in the earlier phases of the election. The state chief secretary has been asked to look after the charge of the home secretary.

A compliance report has been asked for by the EC latest by 10 pm on Wednesday. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has called at press conference at her Kalighat residence cum office.
