Rose Valley probe: IPS officer Syed Waqar Raza called by CBI

IPS officer from West Bengal, Syed Waquar Raza, was called for questioning by the CBI in connection with the Rose Valley investigation. Raza went to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s office in the CGO complex in Salt Lake today. Currently, he is posted as the deputy commissioner in Kolkata Police’s port division.

According to sources, Raza has been called to get the details of some aspects of the probe to find out whether appropriate action had been taken against the company when Raza was working with the West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The CBI is currently investigating the Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund scame involving an estimated Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 17,520 crore respectively. The probes have had far reaching political ramifications and several powerful and influential people have been arrested in this connection.

In October end, Apurba Saha, who heads the West Bengal-based Pailan Group, was arrested by the CBI in connection with an alleged scam of Rs. 600 crore. The arrest has made many influential persons jittery in the state as many feel that this may be another scam like the Saradha and Rose Valley. There are indications that there may be a lot more funds involved that may gradually be unearthed as the investigation progresses.
