Rs.50,000, work and houses for labourers who returned to Bengal from Kashmir following terrorist attack

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Tuesday that 133 labourers from West Bengal who have recently returned home from Kashmir will be given Rs. 50,000 each.

They were brought back to West Bengal after five migrant labourers from the state’s Murshidabad district – who went to Kashmir on work – were killed by terrorists there. The labourers who were brought back will also be provided flats under the West Bengal government’s rehabilitation programme, “Banglar Bari”.

The state government has announced a payment of Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased labourers. The CM had earlier assured that the government will ensure jobs for the migrant labourers who had to return home giving up their jobs in Kashmir.

Banerjee herself took the initiative to bring back 133 labourers who were working in Jammu and Kashmir after the terrorist attack. Two senior police officers had been sent to Kashmir to organise the return. The labourers are from various districts of West Bengal.

After reaching Kolkata station, they were taken to their homes with the initiative of the state government. Some of the labourers were from Murshidabd, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and so on.
